Name: Lily
Where ya from? Los Angeles, born and raised in Studio City
How long have you been at Happy Isles? Since conception! I am the motha of HI.
Most rewarding part of the job? Honestly, our internal team group chat. Cheering everybody on. That and our cool clients who share in our vision and respect what we do!
Who are your style icons? So hard. My friends. Old Beverly Hills grandmas. Audrey Hepburn, Elvis.
TikTok or IG? TikTok I love. It brings me joy. IG is like my life coach, always pushing a little bit. Forcing me to put in the work.
Favorite movie? Singin’ in the Rain. Something’s Gotta Give. Center Stage.
Favorite TV show? Hard. Flavor Flav, I Love New York, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I just started season 2 of The Traitors. I was die hard Bachelor Nation from the beginning but I officially quit after Katie Thurston’s season. I’ve never felt better.
Favorite book? Most read and utilized piece of text would have to be the I Ching. The Wilhelm Baynes translation from 1967 only. Otherwise I’m a non-fiction girlie. I’ve been reading the Ani DiFranco memoir and it’s been special.
Favorite podcast? Pivot with Kara Swisher & Scott Galloway - I’m a regular.
Favorite song right now? Places & Spaces by Donald Byrd always gets me in my flow state. Anything Blossom Dearie. Been listening to the Sabrina Carpenter album!
Queen Lucia 💛
Cats or Dogs? Show us your pet… We have a squat lil pit mix named Lucia. She is a queen.
Cocktail or black tie? Black tie, but like FOR REAL BLACK TIE.
Silver or gold? Silver on the body, gold on the fingers.
Most worn piece in your closet? Massive white button down I bought at Uniqlo in like 2013.
Favorite piece in your closet? A 90’s Enrico Coveri yellow knit dress with multi-colored pailettes and this funky plastic fringe. It’s the weirdest most stunning dress I’ve ever seen, had to keep.
Two YSL Runway Looks from the 1970s
Favorite vintage designers? They rotate. I’m back in a Halston phase, Norman Norell sequins, late 80’s & 90’s Giorgio Sant’Angelo, the right Geoffrey Beene, 50-60’s Dior & Balmain, 70’s-90’s Yves Saint Laurent, 90’s-00’s Valentino, 80’s-90’s Givenchy, 80-90’s Chanel. Alaia. Too many!
Favorite contemporary designers? I think Christopher John Rogers has done some collectible work. I appreciate Jacquemus, the new Alaia I think is good. We really have to hand it to Daniel Rosenberry at Schiaparelli. I’m watching Harris Reed. After despising Balmain for so long, I think Olivier Rousting is actually doing some really good work that’s scratching an itch. The Simone Rocha for JPG was the best show I’ve seen in a really really long time. I used to click through every single show every freakin’ fashion week. I stopped doing that in 2017, it just felt harder and harder and less and less inspiring.
Favorite outfit you ever wore? I truly cannot recall. Maybe I have’t reached that pinnacle yet? I’m not sure any have ever been 100% - like maybe my hair wasn’t quite right, or I didn’t have the perfect shoe. I’m leaving space for my future self! Best outfits have probably been a combo of simple-but-very-short-dress, and a strappy ankle-wrappy shoe.
Biggest fashion regret? Woof, the whole look at my brothers wedding in 2012. I wore a strapless royal blue duchess satin mermaid gown I got at a Monique Lhuillier sample sale. I had a crazy face full of makeup and big blond pagent hair. I looked like Miss Texas. That I did not wear vintage is just insane to me. I let the culture around the wedding take over, and played a part instead of being me.
Biggest fashion pet peeve? Peep-toe booties!!! It just doesn’t make sense. Forever disgusted by the healed Isabel Marant sneakers. I think another is when people let other people dictate what they like or don’t like.
Favorite celeb red carpet look? Too many! Any and all Daryl Hannah from the 90s. The Halle Berry Elie Saab Oscar dress struck me at age 12. Sunglasses incorporation! 2000s Grammys looks.
Favorite liquid treat? Iced Americano with half & half.
Favorite solid treat? Mmmmmm. I just postmated a tiramisu yesterday at 4pm. There’s a caffeine theme (my current drug of choice).
Your ice-breaker fun fact? Less of a fact, more of a showing of my extremely long tongue.
Describe your perfect date? Magically transport to a small river town, walk through Main Street, antique a bit, eat something tasty, find some big smooth rocks in the sun at a river spot with no one around. Get naked!
Are you a black cat or a golden retriever? I really do think that at the end of the day, I am a golden retriever.
Are you a Barbie, Bratz, Polly Pocket or American Girl Doll? American Girl Doll sun, Barbie rising, Polly Pocket moon?
