Sometimes, a spontaneous text to a cute guy turns into a whirlwind romance and a dreamy Tuscan wedding -- with a fabulous Oscar de la Renta dress to kick off the festivities... Let the below encourage you to shoot your shot or at least book a trip to Italy. 💛
1. Tell us about your wedding day and surrounding events! Where did it all go down? Did you have any particular inspiration or musts when choosing the location?
Our wedding was in Tuscany in Lucca, Italy, at Villa Grabau. The inspiration was an intimate Italian garden party, and Villa Grabau had everything we were looking for when it came to scenery, colors, and space! My only non-negotiable was a space large enough to have long tables for an outdoor dinner party and the Lemonhouse surrounded by lemon trees was perfection! Before our wedding day, I had a bridal lunch "under the Tuscan sun" in the backyard of our Villa and a rehearsal dinner, which was an Italian pizza party.
2. How did you and your partner meet? What was the proposal like?
Will and I met in 2020 at a photoshoot and remained friends until he moved across the country to Colorado. 2 years later, I was visiting some friends in Colorado, and my friend and I said we would both text a cute guy to see who responds! I texted Will and asked him out for drinks, and the rest is history! He proposed 6 months later with a ring he custom-designed with Rebecca Pinto on my parent's dock on the lake in Florida. The entire dock was surrounded by candles, and both of our families were hiding - we then went to a surprise engagement dinner at a local town restaurant and celebrated! It was a dream.
3. Describe your Happy Isles dress and/or dresses! When did you know it was the one?
I chose a vintage Oscar De La Renta green and pink floral dress. I knew it was the one because it was our exact wedding colors and theme, and it fit the venue and my personality perfectly! It looks like our invitation in a dress form! I wore it for the Tuscan bridal lunch and it's one of my favorite dresses I've ever worn.
4. What did your partner wear down the aisle, and did you share outfit pics before the big day?
Will wore a custom tux on our wedding day and all of my outfits were a surprise!!
5. How did your guests respond to your outfit/s? Were there any standout reactions?
None of my friends saw any of my looks prior to our wedding weekend. Everyone loved them, and they felt super unique to me and the weekend. Each of my outfits represented my personality style wise, so it was fun to show everyone the final looks - all so different, but all so me!
6. Where did you shop for accessories, and how did you style your look/s?
I knew I had to find green or pink accessories to go with my dress - I wore vintage pink earrings from Happy Isles and found green Gucci studded kitten heels that matched perfectly. Tied it all together with a green Cult Gaia clutch.
7. What was the most memorable aspect of your dress shopping experience? Is there anything you would like to highlight or share with other brides considering an appointment at Happy Isles?
My mom, best friend, and best friend's mom came with me to my appointment and made it so fun! It was always a dream to go to Happy Isles, and having them there with me made it even sweeter! Trying on dresses is already so much fun for me, so being able to shop for a one-of-a-kind vintage look was an amazing experience.
8. Okay. Your HI wedding dress is a person. What is their name, and describe their perfect date!
AH, this is so fun!! Her name would be Lily (since the dress has flowers at the bottom and calla lilies were our wedding flower!), and her perfect date would be something simple - sunset cocktails, an intimate pasta dinner, and late-night gelato. Can be anywhere as long as there's good food, drinks, and company!
9. Getting serious for a second. Did you ever feel like you were breaking the mold or challenging expectations while wedding planning? What were some ways you stayed true to yourself during what can be an emotionally complex experience?
I grew up very traditional, so for me, "breaking the mold" was doing a destination wedding. It was something I've always dreamed of, and felt very us to do Italy since we love to travel. I stayed true to myself by keeping my circle small during wedding planning and not getting a bunch of opinions on everything!
10. They say every wedding has a “wild card” moment. Did anything unexpected happen or surprise you during planning or day-of?
Everything actually went super seamless and, in my eyes, perfect; however, something that took me by surprise when planning a wedding in Italy was how lax and stress-free Italians are about everything. As I am very type-A, that was unexpected when it came to wedding planning! But it definitely taught me to chill and not stress.
11. HOT TAKES: Do you have any wedding planning or dress shopping advice? Please pay it forward to our future brides!
Sleep on it before pulling the trigger, don't show anyone/take 1-2 people with you when shopping (or shop alone!), and wear something where people will say, "That's so her," as it's hard to get caught up in all the trends - stay true to your personality!
12. If you had to choose your single best wedding day memory, what would it be?
Walking down the aisle! It was something I have always dreamt about and my absolute favorite moment of the entire day.
13. Now that the wedding chapter has come to a close, what are some dreams you have for your future, both personally and as a couple?
Since our wedding, I have launched my business as a bridal stylist and have worked with brides and their weddings all over the world! It has been so much fun working with brides and their personal style as it was one of my favorite parts of wedding planning. I am excited to see where it goes in the next year! As a couple, we dream of traveling more, starting a family, and building a house together one day!
14. And finally - shout out your vendors!
