Kate's Film Club: True Love
This month, our resident film buff 💪 Kate Corcoran is combing the digital and sometimes even physical shelves of the video store to find the niche wedding movies worth exploring. Over-the-top gowns, heartbreaking honeymoons, and more await you this month in Kate's Film Club...

An Italian-American movie that does not mention the mob? Do it in the 80s? Oh I am *so in*.
True love, in the most literal definition of the words, is the best way to describe this movie. It does not shy away from the realities of what it’s like to be young and in a serious relationship.
The film follows Donna and Michael in the last days leading up to their wedding. Things start cute but the pressure is building… Michael is immature and clearly a commitment phobe, and now they’re both getting cold feet. They feel the societal pressure to get married even though they have oh so much growing up to do.
But the date is set! The dress has been bought! An apartment lease has been signed! You gotta go through with it…right?!
"It made me really miss my Italian family in Philadelphia."
I loved this movie. It is raw, honest, and funny. There was not a single bad actor, and with writing so good it almost felt like a documentary. Not that much happens, but it’s still so entertaining. How does Nancy do that?
All the characters in this movie were so familiar to me. It made me really miss my Italian family in Philadelphia. Also, anyone who has seen The Sopranos will greatly enjoy the cast crossover. Big Pussy plays Gloria Trillo’s dad, and Janice plays the best friend!
This is a tale of: Do not marry a man in his 20s because you will end up becoming his mother, and/or there are other men in this world than the ones in your neighborhood!!!
Notable wedding mentions:
-Why and when did we stop matching the mashed potatoes to the bridesmaid's dresses? Truly a lost art.
- Reminder a bride needs 3 wedding rings: the fancy one, the daily one, and the band.
- It might be passe to dye your shoes to match your dress – but as an avid tie-dyer I can’t say I’m not intrigued…
-I wholeheartedly believe that the best wedding receptions have a real band.
-I will always roll my eyes and groan when I hear “Mr. and Mrs. [first and last name of the groom],” no matter what year.

Final Rating:
I’m rating True Love 88/100 phone calls to your mom from the male strip club. ☎️
