Two of a Kind: Ricky and Ralph Lauren
HI Fashion History Valentine's Day
byRalph and Ricky Lauren - 1993
In honor of Valentine's Day, we're launching a new series to show off some of the most fashionable pairs out there. Dashing duos and chic partnerships that leave us inspired.
Kicking it off with the one and only Ricky and Ralph Lauren. A couple so cute Ralph Lauren literally made them into teddy bears... Enjoy!
At the Plaza Hotel - 1973
The jersey jumpsuit, the tinted frames, 1970s perfection.
The premiere of The Great Gatsby - 1974
An early peek at Ricky's eclectic styling approach that has made her Ralph's muse for going on 50 years.
At the White House - 1976
Yet again, another classically 70s look from Ricky. And a sleek tux from Ralph.
Arriving at the Guggenheim - 1977
Here we see a quintessential Ralph Lauren ensemble. Cowboy boots, jeans, and a tuxedo jacket.
The Laurens chat with Barbara Walters in the Hamptons - 1984
We can't talk about the Laurens without a little look at their dressed-down preppy style. Here, Ricky wears a pair of patchwork jeans that we'd kill for right now. And Ralph's safari shacket is perfection.
In New York - 1987
This top/tunic layered with the long skirt is eventually becomes a go-to silhouette for Ricky. But here, it has a unique twist with the heavy embellishments.
Ralph and Ricky leave the Dukakis Party - 1988
Here, Ralph is out of his classic tux and into a pinstripe suit. But Ricky sports similar tux details like the cummerbund style belt and a tuxedo inspired sheer blouse.
Leaving the Waldorf Astoria - 1989
This striking satin sash is really doing it for us here. That is all.
Valentine's Day - 1989
Here we see the Southwestern influence Ralph Lauren is famous for in full force on Ricky. While we love Ralph's classic crocheted tie.
Kennedy Center Honors: Audrey Hepburn - 1991
For the event, Ricky pulled inspiration from the night's honoree's look from Breakfast at Tiffany's. (No, not that look. The other one.)
AIDS Research Masquerade Ball - 1991
The playful details are aplenty in this look. From Ralph's red and black boots to Ricky's majorette inspired jacket and cape.
Valentino Gala - 1992
A slightly more classic look from the pair. Sleek black with a focus on cut and drapping.
Met Gala - 1993
Yet again, both Ralph and Ricky look to the tuxedo for inspiration. Ricky's gown mimics the double-breasted cut of Ralph's suit. Somehow, these two don't give us the usual ick we get when couples dress alike...
In the West Village - 1995
Again, their casual looks are just as layered. We're coveting both their belts and Ralph's worn in chambray shirt can be seen for many years to come.
Shirley MacLaine Tribute - 1995
We had to highlight this look of Ricky's because it so perfect encapsulates so much of the Ralph Lauren brand identity. A little preppy, refined, with luxe touches from the silk and sequins.
CFDA Anniversary - 2007
Ricky obviously looking gorgeous in gold - but we're loving Ralph's white tuxedo jacket as well!
CFDA Awards - 2008
We were lucky to have the Spring 2008 Ralph Lauren gown, seen here on Ricky, on the Happy Isles' racks last year. She was a beauty! Special shoutout to Ralph's monogrammed smoking slippers here...
In Paris - 2010
Yet again, subtly matching in tans and tweeds. We love this charcoal suit on Ralph and Ricky's wingtip inspired peeptoe pumps.
Ralph Lauren Flagship Dinner - 2010
Here both Ricky and Ralph sport tuxedos. Ricky's has a more playful cut with tails while Ralph keeps it classic with his go-to wide satin lapels.
Paris - 2013
There is something so chic and sooo Ralph Lauren about Ricky's look here. The dramatic taffeta skirt with piles of pleating, paired with a simple jersey turtleneck and a chunky boho belt. Love.
In Great Britian - 2014
Another Ralph Lauren gown we've had on in the salon! Such a gorgeous piece and we love how Ricky styled it with a satin cummerbund and shrunken tuxedo jacket.
Happy Valentine's Day Love Birds ❤️
