Yes, Chef! Vintage Cookbooks to Get You Through the Holidays

Martha Stewart looking glam making blinis. // Martha Stewart Living
Vintage cookbooks are a fountain of information, entertainment, and downright anthropological discovery! Forgotten ingredients or nostalgic tastes - these cookbooks range from the novel to the necessary for any home cook.
Looking to really expand your cookbook collection? See below for our favorite places to shop for VTG cookbooks and even modern second-hand copies to fill your shelves.

Thriftbooks - Online

Obvious to most, but the best online resource for second-hand books also has a fabulous array of cookbooks. We love opting for some of the less-than-new options because you never know what fabulous handwritten recipe notes await you from the book's previous owner!

AbeBooks - Online

Specializing in rare and signed books, AbeBooks is a great resource for any foodie on your gift list. They even have a signed, 1st edition of Mastering the Art of French Cooking! (For a cool $25k...)

Bonnie Slotnick Cookbooks - New York

If you're in New York and looking for vintage cookbook expertise, Bonnie's got you. The business is old-school: she posts the store's hours every Sunday, and the books you'll find are, too. Great for gifts or just losing yourself in the shelves for an hour.

Now Serving - Los Angeles

A cookbook store run by chefs! Located in Chinatown in a center filled with some tasty restaurants. (Hi, burgers from Amboy and lechon from Lasita...) Now Serving has mostly new cookbooks, as well as a dedicated section of vintage cookbooks and "shop worn" copies of new books. The highly curated collection means there's nary a dud in the mix.
