A Dart is a form of fold that comes to a point to create a closer fit to the body and is typically found along the bust of a garment or waist. 

Have you tried something that doesn’t fit, and you’ve gone to pinch the fabric to achieve the fit you want? Darts essentially act as that pinch. There are a variety of styles of darts depending on the fit you are looking to achieve, including a Fisheye Dart, which is pointed on four sides and resembles a kite, and a French Dart, which is more elongated and starts lower than a Standard Dart.
