Looks of The L Word: Season One

Courrèges, questionable velvet blazers, tiny tops, and more! I'm breaking down the best and bizarre looks from The L Word season one.
If you don’t know, The L Word was a scripted series on Showtime from 2004-2009 featuring the lives of lesbians and bisexuals in Los Angeles.
I watched the series for the first time in 2019, and it has been a regular reference since then.
Why am I qualified for this? Besides being an “L” word myself, I dressed up as Jenny from the basketball game in Season 4 (episode 4) for Halloween last year (coffee cup and all).
So yeah, I'm qualified.
Let’s get into it.
Warning: Maybe spoilers ahead.
First up...
Jenny
A struggling writer, Jenny moves to Los Angeles to live with her boyfriend, Tim.
Jenny's wardrobe speaks to her role as an outcast. Always something a little off about her outfits. Velvet in the summer. Baggy jeans stuffed into boots. Her clothes convey the chaos and uncertainty Jenny feels throughout Season 1.
Marina
Where Jenny's wardrobe screams, "I don't know what I'm doing!" Marina's wardrobe screams confidence. She opts for sexy takes on classics, such as a button-down shirt, but in a fitted, cropped, and sleeveless style. I will be noting down that red and khaki look for summer inspo... 📝
Dana
From one sleeveless gal to another. Dana is all about the sporty pieces and details - she is a pro tennis player, after all! But don't think that means Dana can't turn a look. This Spring 2003 Dolce & Gabbana corset dress from episode 6 is one of the most gasp-worthy fashion moments in season one.
Tina and Bette aka "Tibette"
Our long-term couple of the crew - their clothing reflects the professional worlds they orbit. Bette, a director at the California Arts Center, favors strong suiting but designer details to tie into the art world. (Hello, 1992 JPG blouse! We see you under that blazer!)
Tina, on the other hand, is the more relaxed of the two, a former film producer wanting to have a child. Favoring colorful and silver jewelry with looser silhouettes and flowier fabrics.
Alice
Alice is the spunky, multi-hyphenate bisexual writer, journalist, and future radio personality of the friend group. Clearly, a girl who knows her clothes, Alice favored collared shirts layered under sweaters and vests in a smattering of colors.
A personal favorite look of mine is Alice's outfit when she accompanies Dana to see her mom at the Orange County Republican Women’s Coalition. Pink, pearls, a blonde lil' updo? Code-switching at its finest.
Shane
Shane is a hairdresser and the complicated, cool girl of the group. Which is evident in her clothing and her love life. She has a 70s rocker vibe to her, and we love that. Velvet blazers, white tank tops, and lots of leather are what you'll see Shane sporting.
So are you a Jenny? A Dana? An Alice? A Shane?
