Runway Halloween Party
Halloween is an excellent excuse to recreate some iconic runway looks of the past. Take a peek below at our DIY Runway Couture recommendations... đź’›
Laetitia Casta in Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Spring 1999
Why buy yourself flowers when you can BE the flowers themselves. Laetitia Casta looks like the most ethereal garden dream in expertly placed pink roses in this lingerie-inspired runway look with a matching headpiece and a pink ruffled train. (Hailey Bieber sported this iconic look in ’22. 🌸) Affix some faux pink roses and leaves to a pink swimsuit or lingerie set for the base and perhaps a pink tablecloth for the train, and you’ve created Haute Couture at home.
Shalom Harlow in Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 1999
While you may not have robots around your Halloween party to create the paint effect in real time, that’s nothing a DIY project can’t fix. For recreating this look, start with a white circle skirt that you can wear as a strapless dress, add a crinoline underneath, a belt above the bust (or attach a leather-like trim and buckle), and spray away with neon green, yellow, and black spray paint. Bonus for splattering some black on your face and arms and black makeup running down your face.
Ines de la Fressange in Thierry Mugler Autumn/Winter 1982-1983
If it’s chillier for Halloween where you are, grab your fluffiest white coat, tights, and gloves, and create a little white hat from a boa for this optic white look. Poodles not included, but highly encouraged.
Stella Tenant in Chanel Haute-Couture, Autumn/Winter 1995
Warning: Not for the faint of heart. This Chanel micro-suit is possibly the tiniest (and iconic) swimsuit to walk a runway. For the “top,” cut out circles in black fabric and attach black cording or elastic for the neck, across the chest, and back, and pair with black skimpy tie-side bottoms. Print out or iron on the classic Chanel interlocking C’s for the logo, and sling a white towel around your hips. Add a black wig and smokey makeup, and you’re ready to hit the town!
Kate Moss in Martine Sitbon, Spring/Summer 1993
So you want to be a witch, but not a basic witch, but more like a fashion witch? Look to Kate Moss in Martine Sitbon. Maybe you just got invited to a last-minute party and need something quick to throw together, and this can be made up with simple elements: A sheer long-sleeve slip on top of a collared long black dress and heels. Elevate your witch's hat with a smokey effect of black tulle, a black satin scarf around your neck (or even a choker), and a long cigarette. Could even use a paintbrush if you’re really in a pinch!
Naomi Campbell in Vivienne Westwood, Fall/Winter 1993
Maybe you’re like me and have a plaid skirt from your high school uniform in your closet - pull it out as the base for this look. Pair with a blazer with a crystal brooch, white stockings, and your highest metallic heels. The main star is the voluminous magenta feather boa to wrap around your arms. No worries if you fall in those sky-high heels, though. Just make sure you’re smiling just like Naomi did ;)
